DVF to Address Model/Weight Debate
Monday January 8, 2007
Diane Von Furstenberg, who is President of The Council of Fashion Designers of America, recently acknowledged the current model weight debate by announcing a press conference that will be held during New York Fashion Week in February.
The purpose being to unveil initiatives to promote the health of young models, something that has been a hot topic ever since last September when size 0 model Luisel Ramos collapsed on the runway during Uruguay's Fashion Week. 2006 also saw the death of Brazilian model Ana Carolina, who died as a result of anorexia.

Yes I do think that models are to skinny. They need more models like Beverly Johnson and Tyra Banks who are more the average womens weight.
I think its desgusting how they nearly kill themselves to look like that. and when they do, they make normal sized girls feel huge, making them want to starve themselves, too. being a walking skeleton is not sexy, its just gross.
What a great opportunity for DVF to change people’s perception of healthy beauty.
It’s about time! It’s unrealistic how these models display their bodies..They are showing such a bad image to teenager girls. Women are expected to have a shape.
everyone that talks about this debate are healthy weaters. i have suffered from anorexia for 4 years. you dont understand how it alters your perception.the anorexic models think that they’re all to fat!
not only do i fear for the models themselves, i fear for the women/girls/teens of all ages who will consciously or subliminally buy-into the idea that ’skinny’ is THE acceptable standard. damage from starvation will result, if not in death, in malfunctioning bodies for the rest of our lives. PLEASE–’GIRLS’ OF ALL AGES–KNOW THAT YOUR MAKER ADORES YOU AND WANTS LIFE FOR YOU. immerse yourself in His love and acceptance; don’t look for it in your bodyweight. please treat your bodies with healthful respect and love–that is what God would do for you.
i think that if you are skinny and it’s hard for you to gain weight, then be skinny if you’re a plus size then be a plus size as long as you’re confident within yourself, not everyone has curves but we should have different size models so that they can show teens that as long as you’re healthy you shouldn’t worry about your weight
yes i do they need to put some meat on there bones
Nowadays girls think that to be pretty they need to be morbidly skinny. If the media showed pretty women who aren’t so skeletal, maybe the anorexia would be less of a problem
This is coming from a young teen, so I’m not just making up things. I am 5′8″ and weigh 110 pounds. Last year I spent all fall thinking I was fat, and then I realized that I don’t look fat, and never has anyone indicated that I am, so who cares what those little numbers on my bathroom scale are? I know I’m healthy, I check my BMI every month to double check, so why should I obsess? Unfortunatly, none of the girls I know seem to understand this. They obsess over everything they put into their mouths, and even starve themselves. Why? Because the celebrities and models they see as people they should act and look like do. I think we should follow suit and make a law similiar to Spain’s. This would help us girls to realize that we are normal, and not become paper-thin ourselves.
Models should also be diverse. A healthy beauty is quite different to everyone. Some may look awosome when they weigh more than average, while others may look great being skinny. There should be no standards. So that everyone can find a proper level to maintainn the healthiest situation.
