My New Must-Have: Senz Umbrellas

From Stephanie Prommer, About.com GuideFebruary 17, 2008

Follow me on:

Lately the weather has been so unpredictable here in NYC; one minute it's snowing, the next it's sunny and 60 degrees, and then a few minutes later it's raining cats and dogs. My mom recently came in town to visit me during one of the torrential downpours (hi, mom!), and while we were out shopping both of our umbrellas twisted inside out and became a useless mess.

Not one to let a silly thing like blistering rain ruin a good day of bargain hunting, I actually found an umbrella that can withstand winds up to 70mph: The Senz.

Created by three Dutch friends, Gerwin Hoogendoorn, Gerard Kool and Philip Hess, the Senz umbrella is a phenomenon that is huge overseas and is just starting to gain notoriety here in the United States. And I have to admit, I think the guys behind the project are just adorable! On their company website the boys (who are all under 30) have little bios about themselves, and they include funny statements like Philip is "an underrated singer in the shower," and Gerwin proudly ranks "among the best male seamstresses in the world, a remarkable skill that has helped him earn multiple 'Employee of the month' honors." How cute is that?
