High-Low Fashion is the Way to Go
I got invited to a swanky party for the Tribeca Film Festival last night, and I was totally sweating over what to wear. I decided to go with an all-black outfit - that way no one could really tell if it was expensive or not. When I got there I ran into actress Joy Bryant (she was most recently in the Martin Lawrence flick Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins), and she looked so perfectly put-together. I asked her what she was wearing, and to my surprise her dress was from Urban Outfitters, her sweater and clutch were Club Monaco and her leggings were by American Apparel!
Joy finished off her look with some killer glitter-covered Sergio Rossi pumps (when I asked her about them she said: "I wish I could wear them everywhere. I almost tried to go on my bicycle with them the other day, but it didn’t really work out!"), which added just the right touch of glitz to her otherwise affordable ensemble. That got me thinking: All you really need to make an amazing outfit is one stand-out piece, and then the rest of your clothing can be way more budget-friendly. Thanks for the tip, Joy!

I think this is an excellent point and one that many young people might not realize. Save your money — or your parent’s money — by being creative with affordable pieces. You can splurge on classic items, such as a black cardigan or a jacket, that you’ll use over and over again. There are plenty of stores that offer adorable bargains nowadays. Target is probably my favorite. What are some others?
