I Put T.J. Maxx to the Test

From Stephanie Prommer, About.com GuideJanuary 3, 2011

Follow me on:

I have been seeing a lot of commercials on television for T.J. Maxx and how the company offers the same items you find in department stores - even current season goods - for less.

I decided to find out for myself if their claims are true, and surprisingly I did find several items that are selling now at full price for much less!

For example, the Nicole Lee "Farrah" handbag (pictured below left) is priced at $88 right now on the NicoleLeeUSA.com website. But at the T.J. Maxx nearest me in NYC, they have the same exact purse (fur tassel and all) for $39.99! I took pictures myself in the store to prove it.

I also found a satchel that I liked a lot from B. Makowsky called "Ripley" (pictured below left) - which retails right now on Endless.com for $268. However, at T.J. Maxx the same bag was $159.99 - a significant savings.

So, if you're willing to bring your smartphone to the store to comparison shop I bet you'll be amazed at the bargains you come up with!
