Allyson Miller is an every day girl with extraordinary style.  She's 17 years old and, like most girls her age, is navigating high school; but unlike most of her peers, she's carved out a unique sense of style that is all her own.  Just recently I was able to sit down and talk with this teenaged fashion blogger about what inspires her style, what some of her back to school picks are, and what inspired her to start her tumblr based fashion blog, Artistry Muse.

How would you describe your style?

My style is 90's inspired effortlessly chic. I love wearing high-waist shorts as well as cigarette pants and I also enjoy making my outfits look like I took time to pick out, when I usually take only a few minutes.

Tell us a little bit about your blog Artistry Muse.  Why did you decide to start a tumblr dedicated to your style?

I discovered personal style blogs when I saw that a family friend had one and I said to myself," I can do that too!" So I started one on tumblr! The inspiration for the theme of my blog is kind of complicated. I had been bullied since I was little, whether it was because of my looks or because of my family, I was teased; in turn, it has been my dream to inspire girls to love themselves, and that it is where I got my blog name from! I looked up,' a person who inspires,' and got the word Muse. Then looked up synonyms of beautiful/ beauty and got Artistry; which translates to, a person who inspires beauty.

ally styleWhat inspires your style?  Who are your favorite designers?

My Mom and street fashion are my inspirations. I love looking through photo albums of when she was my age! Till this day, she's one of the best-dressed women I know.

My favorite designers are Mondo Guerra, and Jason Wu. Mondo was my favorite designer on Project Runway All-Stars, and now I follow him on Facebook! I love how he mixes bold prints and bold colors to get statement garments/outfits. Jason Wu is an inspiration; he went from having a collaboration with Target to pairing up with Neiman Marcus! I also love the vintage feel to his garments.

Tell us about some of your back to school purchases.

For school, I have recently purchased a denim button down and a pair of pink jeans from Forever21. Everyone should have a denim button down in their closet, it's one of those essential pieces that you'll just find yourself grabbing for all the time! It's great for those chilly days when you need a little cover up, or just an awesome piece to add texture to an outfit. A pair of colored jeans is awesome too! They are fun to wear and are a great statement piece to keep in your closet when you have nothing to wear!

Do you ever find it difficult to stay stylish yet school appropriate and parent approved?

I don't find it difficult at all because I am already conservative since I was raised in a very strict household. Also, if I don't feel comfortable in it, then I don't wear it.  Bikinis, bodycon dresses/skirts, or really short shorts; I'm just not interested in those kinds of clothing. I go towards flowy pieces like pleated skirts and oversized sweaters.

What are some of your favorite trends of the moment, and which do you wish would go away?

HIGH-WAIST SHORTS! Oh my gosh, I'm obsessed. I basically stole all of my Mom's old pairs of high-waist shorts and they are currently in my closet!

I wish tight fitting things went away, because they don't seem like something comfortable to wear and not everyone is able to wear them as well as others.

You have a knack for accessorizing.  How important is finding the right accessories and what should other teens look for when  it comes to accessory shopping?

Accessories can make or break an outfit. They could add that little something that an outfit needs or overpower the outfit and drown it.

I, personally, look for only necklaces because I know that I won't be comfortable with bracelets on, but if you are then go for it! Just make sure you're comfortable with it. Also, find accessorizes that have different 'feelings'. Such as, combat boots can add an edge when bow ballet flats add a girly feel. As well as a necklace with a heart pendant displays a cutesy feel and a necklace with triangles has a grungy feel.

ally styleWhat do you like about the fashion industry and fashion blogosphere at the moment? Is there anything you wish you could change?

I like how anyone can be a blogger! Anyone can put up what they're interested in out there to share with people and for people to see and be inspired by.

If I were to change anything, it would probably be the competition. On the other hand, if it weren't for the bloggers that were there before me, then I wouldn't be a blogger today.

What is your favorite look you've put together so far?
My birthday outfit is my favorite one! I love the juxtaposition or the mix of textures I used in the outfit. Such as, the distressed denim vest with the floral skirt went so well together! I love how the vest toned down the girlishness of the skirt.  It's also what I really wanted in my outfit: chill and something special.
