How would you describe your fashion style?
Brett:I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy! Or jeans and a long sleeve shirt depending on the month. If it's cold I usually wear a hoodie, or my leather jacket from Zara that I love!
I usually wear really casual jeans - you know the jeans that come with rips in them and are faded out a little bit? The first time I got them I tried to return them. I said 'All of the jeans on this shelf are ripped.' Turns out... it's part of the style!
So that day changed my life, and now I like jeans with a little rip in them. I don't like them baggy. I don't really like any of my clothing baggy, unless I'm breakdancing.
What are your favorite clothing brands to wear?
Do you admire any other celebrities' style?
I don't know about which celebrity's clothing I admire. I like a lot of them. I think Brad Pitt has a pretty cool style. It's kind of chill, but really stylish at the same time! Except I don't wear hats.
What fashion styles do you like on girls?
For girls, I really like tight black leggings. Maybe because I love comics and superhereos, and when I was little I had a crush on Cat Woman, so I guess that stuck with me.
It's also sexy when girls are just in sweatpants and a sweater! It kind of shows they have the confidence to wear whatever they feel comfortable in!
What can we expect from you in the future?
Well..hopefully I'll be a regular on a TV series. And it would be awesome to play the really dumb, clumsy, awkward dude! I want to show people I can be versatile.
Hopefully I can do a movie along the lines of a Leonardo DiCaprio film. Something dramatic, with deep character development, and one of the roles where you have to go out and study somewhere like in Blood Diamond. That would be amazing. My lifetime dream is to do a movie with Jim Carrey or Steve Carell.
What advice would you give to teens about following your career path?
The advice I would give, is no matter how hard it gets, how many times you get shut down, don't hang up the towel unless you DON'T want to act AT ALL. There have been so many times in my career where I've felt I'd never book a role again. 2007 especially was just a bad year for me.
But I love acting too much to ever give it up. So I thought, okay, since I'm not booking anything right now, I'm going to study ten times harder and improve. I'll figure out how to make things my own, and make it real. Figure out all the things that make me upset, sad, happy, mad, glad, bad, etc...to hone my craft.
Can you elaborate more on that?
It also helps a lot to study people. The way people move. The way people talk, and even the way people breathe. Because LIFE is acting. Everywhere around you people are acting. You can pick little things from everyone you meet and see, and create a character, instead of faking a character. Study people, study scripts and understand every single moment your character is going through. Every realization, decision and thought. It's extremely important to understand every little moment in a scene, like you would in real life. What advice would you give teens about having great style?
Advice that I have for teens when it comes to style, is be who you want to be! Don't change because someone doesn't like what you are wearing. Because YOU know who you are better than anyone else does. Figure out who you are and what you love, and what your objective in life is.
And apply that to whatever it is you like wearing. Heck, if you want to wear a bra over your left eye, do it, if that's who you are! It inspires me when I see people wearing bright colored shoes, or crazy vibrant shirts. It sticks in my mind. It's like, 'Good for you for wearing something different because you love it and you're not embarassed to wear something like that,' and it becomes a part of you. The style is being YOU. Be YOU.
