About Lauren: She's the incredibly down-to-earth and likeable star of The Hills as well as an intern at Teen Vogue, and now Lauren "LC" Conrad is also a budding fashion designer! With the first few exclusive pieces of the "Lauren Conrad Collection" now available for purchase on her website, www.shoplaurenconrad.com, LC took some time out to give me the scoop on her inspirations and style tips!
How She Got Started in Fashion: You may think that Lauren is new to the fashion game, but she's actually been in the business for four years! LC says: "I’ve always tried to work in the industry - I've done retail, I've worked in a showroom, I've worked at tradeshows. I've always tried to keep myself in the industry and do a lot of different things so I could understand it better. I learned a lot over the past four years."
Her Inspirations: With her years of experience to draw from, it was only a matter of time before LC came up with her own collection. But what inspired her designs? Lauren shares that "I kinda tried to make it my personal style. I like dressing really comfortable, but I grew up at the beach in looser, flowing fabrics. But now that I live in the city I have to dress up more, so I tried to combine the two styles." As for the hues in her line, LC says that she "wanted to do rich, bold colors." Her surprising inspiration? A peacock feather!
Lauren's Favorites: One of the coolest things about LC's collection is that she named the clothes after her friends! She said that when coming up with the name for each piece, she tried to envision her pals in them, and named them according to who they reminded her of. As for her faves in the line? LC is all about the "Jade Bubble" dress, and she also says "I love the 'Sherry' dress which is a jersey knit, and the 'Audrina' I really like."
How to Wear Her Clothes: Lauren really envisions the items in her collection to be wearable by anyone, and from day to night. She says of each piece: "You can dress it up, dress it down. I made it very simple and clean because I like to accessorize. It’s very diverse to wear." I personally couldn't agree more!
LC's Easy Fashion Tip: She always looks amazing, so I couldn't resist asking Lauren for her style advice. She dished the dirt, saying: "My easiest trick, and I know I do it too much, is I always wear headbands. When you don’t want to do your hair it covers your roots if you put a big headband on." Gotta love it!
