About Nicole Chavez:
She's one of the most in-demand stylists for Hollywood celebs, but you'd never know it from talking to down-to-earth Nicole Chavez! Based in Los Angeles, this raven-haired fashion guru took some time out of her busy schedule to share her insider fashion tips.
A bevy of young beauties rely on Nicole for her fabulous fashion taste. She regularly works with Rachel Bilson, Kristen Bell, Amy Smart, Brittany Snow, Scarlett Johansson, Ashlee Simpson and Katherine Heigl, to name a few.
Her Career Break:
Nicole didn't always have a high-fashion career - she worked her way up to the top. She says: "I started as an intern on a movie probably seven years ago, and did movies until The O.C. pilot came up. Then I got asked to work with the cast, and that’s where I met Rachel Bilson, and she was just getting started with her career, so we started working together. She was my first and only client, and then from there it just took off."
Since most of Nicole's clients are ingenue-types, she likes to give them a realistic, fresh look. "I really work off my clients’ vibes and who they are as people – just like they grabbed the clothes out of their closet as they were leaving. I like the girls to look and feel like it’s something they did themselves. It looks approachable and real – not so overstyled and over the top." Nicole thinks the goal of fashion is to "bring your personality into your clothes and have it be an extension of who you are."
Sure, Nicole's clients often turn up on the red carpet in dazzling diamonds and designer frocks, but they also wear affordable brands, too. "All the girls love Target!" Nicole says, adding "people need to be open to brands from Target to Chanel, because then you can really build looks out of your closet, and it’s not so contrived. You don’t have to have a ton of money to look fashionable at all."
Nicole's Fashion Advice:
No matter your style preferences or budget, Nicole says you can find the perfect look for you. She recommends building an outfit "off a great pair of jeans, a blazer, or a great skirt. Once you have those key pieces, your accessories can be trendier. You can go to H&M or Forever 21 for accessories to get that in-the-moment look, so you’re not spending thousands of dollars." The most important part of creating a look? "Confidence," Nicole says, adding "it just radiates, and people respond to it."
Before she had to run off to her next fabulous fashion appointment, Nicole shared these words of style wisdom: "I think when it comes to fashion, it’s really important to figure out what you want to say about yourself. When people look at you it’s a first impression, so it’s important to have a clear vision about what you want to say about your clothes."
