Going back to school in style is always important, so it's key to know the hottest trends for fall 2010. David Hacker, vice president of trend and color for Kohl's department stores, gave me the inside scoop on what's going to be big this season. Here are the hottest fashion trends for back-to-school:
Trend: Mixing Prints
Patterns of all types including plaid, floral and stripes will be big this season - so why not try putting a couple of them together in one outfit? David Hacker of Kohl's suggests going about it this way: "For the truly bold, try this season's hottest trend of mixing and matching contrasting prints wthin one look. Play with size and scale, but make sure opposing patterns have similar colors and saturations to master this fashion feat."
Trend: Denim
"Denim is the quintessential must-have for the back-to-school season," David says. This season expect to see destroyed and acid washes, as well as skinny, slouchy and roll-cuffed versions. Hacker also suggests to "watch for the return of flared denim styles in a variety of on-trend colors and washes."
Trend: Bright Sneakers
"Footwear makes a statement this season with brightly colored sneakers at the center of back-to-school fashions," David says. If you're afraid to go all-out with a neon kick, Hacker suggests to "try a monochromatic sneaker in a primary hue like red or blue."
Trend: Lace-Up Boots
"Back-to-school is all about boots, and this season is all about the lace-up," David says, adding: "Wear a ditsy print floral skirt two ways by pairing it with a tall granny boot for a feminine look or updated combat boots for an urban style with edge."
