Karl Lagerfeld

Born in Hamburg, Germany in 1938, Karl Lagerfeld moved to Paris at age 14, and by 17 was working in the fashion house of Pierre Balmain. In 1964, Lagerfeld decided to take a break from fashion to study art in Italy, but by 1967, he was back in the style world working at Fendi as a design consultant. In the 1970s Lagerfeld designed for Chloé until his departure in 1983, when he began designing for Chanel. Today, in addition to his work as designer of the Chanel line, Lagerfeld also designs for Fendi and his own Karl Lagerfeld collection. In his rare time off, Lagerfeld enjoys music and languages, and is a fluent speaker of German, English, French and Italian.
