Born in New York City in 1963, Marc Jacobs studied at Parsons School of Design in New York, where he was awarded the Perry Ellis Golden Thimble in 1984. The next year, Jacobs was hired as vice president of womenswear at Perry Ellis, but was let go from the company in 1992. In 1994, Jacobs and his business partner Robert Duffy launched the Marc Jacobs fashion line, and in 1997 Jacobs was appointed creative director of Louis Vuitton. In 2001, Jacobs launched his more affordable line, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and he still regularly designs collections for his Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton lines. Marc is currently based in Paris, France.
