About Kara:

I am really enamored with the way college freshman Kara Frisoli takes a polished, ladylike approach to dressing, even at a young age. Whether she's mixing blazers and jeans or layering a cashmere sweater over a tee, Kara makes it all look effortless - and most importantly, it doesn't seem stuffy!

Age:

18

Hometown:

New Canaan, Connecticut

What She's Wearing:

Rebecca Beeson long T-Shirt, Citizens of Humanity pants, H&M blazer and Anne Klein flats.

How She Describes Her Style:

Kara explains her fashion taste as "relatively simple, polished yet comfortable," adding: "I really like investing in accessories, but I don’t like wearing too much at one time. Most of the time I’ll wear a solid-colored top and long earrings, a pair of nice pants or shorts, and standout shoes." The one fashion item Kara doesn't usually go for? "I tend to stray away from skirts, just because I find them uncomfortable," she says.

Fave Places to Shop:

When I asked Kara where she gets all her great clothes, she said: "Surprisingly, I get really lucky finding classy and fun clothes at The Limited. Banana Republic and J. Crew have a nice selection for both school and the weekend. H&M is a great place for finding weekend night-out outfits, and Lord & Taylor is my go-to place for shoes." She also shared: "I tend to head to boutiques for better quality staple clothes, but if I need a party outfit quick I rely on Forever 21."

Style Icons:

As for who Kara looks up to style-wise, she says: "Natalie Portman - she tends to keep it classy while keeping it interesting." Other than Natalie, Kara says "I don’t really care what other people are wearing; if I like how it looks and fits, I’ll wear it."

How to Get Her Style:

Since she has such sophisticated, classic taste, I asked Kara to explain her fashion philosophy. She said: "Try not to follow fads too much. Sometimes it can be fun to feel trendy, but the whole point of a fad is that it goes away just as quickly as it came. Stick to timeless staples, and you should always be fine." That's great advice!
