Haute for the Holidays: Five Trend Forward Holiday Party Looks

How to incorporate 2012's hottest fashion trends into your holiday party look.

Christmas is less than a month away and that only means one thing -- no, not presents, holiday parties! There’s a good chance this year you’ll be invited to a Christmas party, general holiday party, or a New Years Eve party, whether it be with your friends, a family gathering, or for your parents work. Holiday parties are a great excuse to get dolled up and wear your most shimmery and sparkly looks. The great thing is, there are a handful of amazing fashion trends for fall 2012 that can easily be incorporated into your holiday looks. Here are a few recommendations:

The Leather Skirt
Leather (or faux leather) is definitely haute, but probably the last fabric on the forefront of your mind when it comes to dressing for holiday parties. This season that is all set to change because a leather a-line skirt can be just as festive as the rest of them. The key is to pair it with something sparkly and more traditionally holiday; try it with shimmery bustier, accented with a mirrored belt, or a with a metallic off the shoulder sweater. Either look goes great with over the knee socks or lace tights, a statement necklace, and an amazing clutch.

The High Low Skirt
You can find high low skirts in just about any color, but a basic black high low skirt is the perfect canvas for creating your haute holiday look. There are so many things you can do with this; one great option is to wear it with a simple sequined tank top and fur jacket, or a basic tank top and a sequined cardigan -- too cute! Complete the look with a pair of dotted semi-sheer tights and your favorite t-straps.

The Peplum Top
Peplums are fabulous because compliment just about any figure -- thin, curvy, or in between. And they’re so dressy and inherently feminine that they’re just made for the holidays. A basic, solid colored peplum in black or white is the perfect way to balance a sequined mini skirt for New Years Eve, or full a-line skirt in a festive color like red for Christmas parties. If you’re lucky enough to find a gem, like a sequined peplum make sure to go for it! Pair it with a maxi skirt and envelope clutch for added effect.

Baroque Prints & Brocade
Another one of this seasons hottest trends, Baroque and Brocade embellishments are perfect for holiday looks, without being predictable. Instead of a sequined skirt, try mini skirt with an all over baroque screen print, or with some shimmery gold brocade patterns. Either will work perfectly with a basic peplum top, yet another haute trend for 2012, and a great pair of booties. And if you’re looking to dress up a basic pair of jeans, you totally can with a baroque print tee -- just add heels and you have a casual and effortless look for Christmas morning!

Embellished Collars
You might already have a top with an embellished collar in your closet already; truth be told, this style in just about any color can be perfectly festive for Christmas and New Years Eve parties, as well as unexpected. Another option is to take a blouse you already have, with a U-neck or boat neck, and accessorize it with a detached collar or collar necklace. These accessories are yet another hot trend for fall and can be found at Forever 21, The Icing, and similar stores.

Leggings & Jeggings
Believe it or not, leggings and jeggings can take part in holiday cheer too! It’s all about finding them in the right prints and fabrics. Sequined leggings are everywhere, and an obvious choice for the season; just imagine how haute you’ll look in a pair of gold sequined leggings with a draped black tunic and a pair of ankle strap platforms? Another great alternative is a pair of baroque patterned leggings or damask printed skinny jeans -- these look great with flowy blouses and bustiers alike.
