Top 10 Spring 2007 Fashion Trends for Teens

By

Part of the fun of being a Fashionista, is keeping up with all of the hottest new trends! Make sure that you're up to speed by checking out these top picks for Spring '07.

1. Metallic Minidresses

First, we saw them scattered on the runways of the Spring 2007 shows at New York Fashion Week. Then, we saw them appear in droves at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards -- metallic minidresses are taking over the planet this season! We especially love this silver fleece one by Norma Kamali for Everlast because it's uber-cute and can take you from day into night.

2. Buttercream Yellows

Buttercream Yellow looks exactly how it sounds; buttery. creamy. yellow. And it reminds us of the delicious frosting on our favorite Magnolia cupcakes! Beyond that, this exact hue was the obvious color 'du jour' inside the tents at Fashion Week this season and nobody did it better than fashion designer Alice Roi.

3. Trapeze Shapes

Remember the bubble shape that was all the rage in Fall? Well, it's time to "pop" it and "swing" onto fashions latest favorite silhouette--Har har, we're very clever, we know--The trapeze shape is great because it works on virtually every body type and can very effectively hide problem areas! We're ga-ga over this lovely Proenza Schouler trapeze coat, available at Target.

4. Oxford Shoes

We're not trying to beat you over the head with this, and we know it takes some getting used to, but your Dad's old church shoes might be hipper than you think! During NYFW, brands and designers like Wunderkind, Viktor+Rolf, Vena Cava and Sabyasachi, caught everyones attention when they sent their female models down the catwalk in menswear-inspired oxford shoes!

5. Wayfarer Glasses

Okay, so maybe some of us aren't old enough to remember Tom Cruise's character in the 1980's movie 'Risky Business', but we ARE certainly all old enough to remember Chloe Sevigny bringing the signature 'Risky Business' Ray-Ban wayfarer sunglasses back into the limelight. Now, people like the Olsen twins, Lindsay Lohan, Kirsten Dunst, Cory Kennedy, Drew Barrymore, Brittany Murphy and Mischa Barton never leave home without them!

6. Wide Legged Jeans

So you thought you were stuck with skinny jeans for like, the next 5 years, right? We know, we did too. But then pictures of Kate Moss in a spectacular pair of wide-legged jeans started popping up all over the place and no-one could take their eyes off her -- she looked SO fashion-forward! Good fashionistas know that Miss Moss is always one step ahead of the trends, so of course, it's time for everyone to run off and buy a pair of their own this Spring.

7. Day Clutches

The last few season have been all about the super-ultra-mega oversized handbag, filled to the brim with the contents of ones life. So it makes sense that people would begin to grow weary of this trend, and yearn for a lighter load. Enter the daytime clutch; light, feminine, delicate--just like Spring! While it's true that you'll no longer be able to fit your laptop into your purse, you have to admit, they are oh-so-very cute and, well...maybe your back deserves a little break?

8. Evening Shorts

Ah, evening shorts. Fashion designers like Jason Wu have been teaching us some incredibly classy ways to show some leg this season. Pair these babies with a shimmery top, a great heel, and in some instances, opaque hose and you'll be ready to hit the town while exuding both class and sass!

9. Thick Plastic Bangle Bracelets

Some people love them, some people loathe them. No matter what your take is, big thick plastic bangles were all over the Spring 2007 runways at New York Fashion Week. So, obviously the designers and stylists are on to something that the rest of us aren't...yet. We personally love this look and think that somehow, even those claiming to loathe these types of bracelets will come around. It's all a matter of how it's done! The best way to rock this trend is to stack up several of them on one arm, in all different colors and materials.

10. Cocktail Rings

Want to live in the moment? Then slip some bold baubles on your fingers, honey, because cocktail rings are SO now. They bring the drama and go with practically everything. Wear 1 or 10, it doesn't matter! Virtually every star has some chunky rock candy glamming their hands up at red carpet events these days and Nicole Richie is very fond of incorporating big rings in even her most casual daytime looks.
