Jeans are THE staple piece in practically every teen's wardrobe, but how do you find the perfect pair? We asked Rachel DiCarlo from American Eagle Outfitters to share her tips on getting the best denims for you.

Suit Your Shape: Everyone's body is different, so even if one cut of jean is super-trendy right now, it may be better to choose the pair that will accentuate your best features. DiCarlo suggests that "if you're tall, straight leg jeans are always flattering and may be worn with flats or heels. Boyfriend jeans are great if you want a little more room in the leg area, and the hottest silhouette of the season is the wide leg trouser jean. This cut really looks good on all figures."

Try them on: Another piece of advice DiCarlo offers is to be sure to try on multiple cuts and sizes in the dressing room. "Don't assume your size," she says, adding: "There is such a wide range of silhouettes that your size may vary with each different fit. You will feel better about your purchase if you take the time to try your jeans on before heading to check-out."

Find the right wash: There are a variety of finishes and washes to choose from when shopping for jeans, DiCarlo says. Just like black pants instantly slim the body, a dark wash of denim will do the same thing! DiCarlo also thinks that "dark denim can go from the office to a night out on the town."

Take Good Care: Once you've found a pair in the perfect cut and color, you can keep them in pristine shape by following DiCarlo’s tips. Since jeans have a tendency to lose their shape after a couple of wearings, DiCarlo suggests "if your jeans have stretched, try throwing them in the dryer; they get right back into their original shape and hug your figure again." Another tip is to "wash your jeans in cold water and turn them inside out. This will make the color last longer," DiCarlo adds.

Get Shopping: Now that you've got all the basics down, get out there and find your perfect jeans!
