Top 10 Trends for Fall 2007

By Stephanie Prommer, About.com

Put on your seat belts ladies, because the fall fashion extravaganza is about to begin! Every season there are some clear trends that emerge after watching the designers' collections, and this year is no exception. So with that in mind, here are the top ten fashion trends for fall. And remember, since these are really only fads we're talking about, there's no need to spend a fortune to keep up – just get one inexpensive piece that will update your every day basics!

1. Bright Colors

Say buh-bye to your all-black ensembles – this season color is in, and the brighter the better! Think neon pink and brilliant blue, along with touches of green, yellow and red. These work for dresses and tops, but are really ideal for shoes and handbags – even in small doses, these hues will make an impact.

2. Oversize Clutches

Not just for evenings out, the clutch has evolved and become mega-size! Big enough to hold daytime essentials, these roomy bags are fast becoming the carryalls of choice for young Hollywood.

3. Stud Accents

Break out your bedazzlers! There's nothing cooler than adding a little bit of tomboy edge in an unexpected way, and this season many designers turned to metal studs to toughen up their designs. They look fresh around the neckline of a top, on a handbag flap or even on a high-heeled sandal!

4. Animal Prints

Whether you want to walk on the wild side or prefer to be a bit tamer, there's bound to be an animal print accent for you. Cheetah seems to be the animal du jour (with zebra coming in a close second), and you can find it on everything from watchbands to evening dresses. I like a little touch on a headband, personally – paired with a crimson-hued lipgloss.

5. Ombre Designs

It's a little tricky to describe, but ombre is a fabric dye effect where a color seems to either fade from dark to light, or change from one hue into another. It can be found all over Prada's celeb-favorite handbags this season, but it's also a chic touch for a flirty cocktail frock.

6. Python

You couldn't 'asp' for a more versatile trend: Whether on handbags, shoes or the trim of a lapel, snakeskin is everywhere! Available in real or faux versions, you can also put the squeeze on your waistline with a snake-print belt.

7. Metallics

There's no need to just go for the gold this season: Silver, bronze and pewter are all in style, too! If you're feeling daring you can try a shiny metallic dress, or for a more low-key effect a glittery clutch or pump. Feel free to mix metals, too – the more, the merrier!

8. Patent Leather

Not just for tap shoes or school uniform-issued Mary Janes, slick patent leather is perfect for totes, belts, high heels – you name it! It adds an instant dose of polish to any outfit, and is also super-easy to clean: Just lightly rub with a soft cloth and you're good to go!

9. Sequins

Forget the disco - glittery sequins are making their way into daytime essentials! Don't be afraid to sparkle in a glitzy T-Shirt or flats – and of course feel free to rock the school dance in a sequined minidress!

10. 1980's Revival

It's been around before, but 1980's-era fashions are back, baby! If you've already worn the trend once then it's best to leave this one alone, but for younger girls it's a fantastically fun and colorful look. Have a blast experimenting with neon colors, graphic tees and piles of bracelets loaded on both arms.
